Happy New Year! On this first day of the new year, centered in God, we create a fresh new life. In Unity tradition on the first Sunday after Christmas, we perform our Burning Bowl ceremony that allows us to shift our consciousness. During this ceremony, in prayer, we identify thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors which we choose to release. We will write these things down and place them into the fireplace after the service. We open ourselves up to the power of inspiration, insight, wisdom, and love. We begin this year with joy and a new perspective.

All stories that touch us have universal elements. It matters not the characters or culture; they all reflect our personal hero’s journey and all of the feelings that make the story rich and meaningful. Today, the Christmas story reminds us of humble beginnings and magnificent purposes. We are all those characters!

Today’s Daily Word tells us that inner joy is the foundation of irrepressible strength and fortitude. Did you ever put these words together in this way? Isn’t it interesting that we are stronger and more resilient when joy leads our way? This is not to say that we must always be happy, especially in a season in which happiness is fleeting. No, joy is a richer quality, one that embraces and accepts ALL of life as it is, doing what is ours to do and leaning upon Spirit to show the way. There is mystery and uncertainty in joy, for sure, but there is also radiant splendor. Follow that star!

Today’s Daily Word says that love is a noun and a verb. This implies that Love is not only an inherent spiritual quality that we possess; it is also a call for us to ACT in the world as beings of love. As we move through this holy season, how are we practicing our Love gift? Where is it easy, and where is it challenging? How do we contribute Love in our personal lives and on a global scale? Let’s take ourselves into a higher Love vibration through this season and beyond.

Getting in touch with the child that resides in each of us can lead us on a path of exploration, adventure and foster a deeper relationship with the Christ consciousness.

We all know from 1 Corinthians that "Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love." You may be looking forward to a traditional—-or non-traditional!—-meal this holiday, but consider two elements that together make Thanksgiving even better: grace and gratitude. By now we have learned that gratitude every day is a key to a healthy spiritual life. And grace is a subtle but glorious gift to be both received and given. It is that aspect of Spirit that forgives, that does not insist upon “punishment equal to transgression.” Together, gratitude and grace infuse our earthly existence with transcendence

Billy Millwee will share with us how his life has been shaped by intention, whether intentional or unintentional, and how that way of being has brought his life into a sharper focus. He will also share how intentions led to a relationship with the non-profit grassroots peace movement “Healing Across the Divides” and its founder Norbert Goldfield. M.D.
