Unity was founded on the principle of affirmative prayer, and prayer worksin all situations and circumstances. Many of you know the story of co-founder Myrtle Fillmore’s experience of healing chronic tuberculosis through prayer. But what does healing prayer mean to us today? Too oftenwe have equated healing with cure---an assumption that leads to confusion and disappointment. We will explore the many aspects of healing, while keeping in mind that prayer is one consistent in our spiritual journey and growth.

Today our community joins in the Annual Meeting, one of the most important dates in our calendar. It is an opportunity for you to exercise your wisdom, discernment, and membership vote on important issues for the year ahead. We remember Power as a gift of Spirit that elevates our decision-making. It brings purpose from our mind through our hands. When we invoke Power that is magnified in and through each other, our mutual direction is clear and strong! are becoming if we stay focused on our spiritual growth.

Even as we understand that we are powerless over conditions and circumstances, it can feel overwhelming when the focus of conversation is on the chaos. With commitment over time, we can T.R.U.S.T. (Total Reliance Upon Spiritual Timing). We can become at peace with who we are, and who are becoming if we stay focused on our spiritual growth.

Jan. 1st, 2023 - Burning Bowl Ceremony

Happy New Year! On this first day of the new year, centered in God, we create a fresh new life. In Unity tradition on the first Sunday after Christmas, we perform our Burning Bowl ceremony that allows us to shift our consciousness. During this ceremony, in prayer, we identify thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors which we choose to release. We will write these things down and place them into the fireplace after the service. We open ourselves up to the power of inspiration, insight, wisdom, and love. We begin this year with joy and a new perspective.

All stories that touch us have universal elements. It matters not the characters or culture; they all reflect our personal hero’s journey and all of the feelings that make the story rich and meaningful. Today, the Christmas story reminds us of humble beginnings and magnificent purposes. We are all those characters!

Today’s Daily Word tells us that inner joy is the foundation of irrepressible strength and fortitude. Did you ever put these words together in this way? Isn’t it interesting that we are stronger and more resilient when joy leads our way? This is not to say that we must always be happy, especially in a season in which happiness is fleeting. No, joy is a richer quality, one that embraces and accepts ALL of life as it is, doing what is ours to do and leaning upon Spirit to show the way. There is mystery and uncertainty in joy, for sure, but there is also radiant splendor. Follow that star!
